This new scanner aimed at casual users was just introduced by Epson on Monday.  The V100 will be available in stores this August and will retail for $99.  The V100 is equipped with USB 2.0 connectivity and has a slim design for scanning in either landscape or portrait orientation.  The scanner lid opens 180 degrees for hassle free scanning of large objects and  it rises 25 mm up for scanning thick 3d objects.  This scanner has 3200 x 9600 dpi resolution and 48-bit color.  The V100 has a built in transparency unit and 3.2 Dmax so it can automatically scan photos, slides, negatives, and documents. It also features one touch buttons for scan, copy, e-mail, and pdf functions.

Epson GT 2500 Document Imaging Color Scanner

The maximum size of documents is 8.5" x 14" and this scanner also comes with a 50 sheet automatic document feeder. What's really cool about this scanner is not that it can achieve speeds of 27 pages per minute (ppm) in monochrome and 11 ppm in color, or that it can achieve resolutions up to 1200 x 1200 dpi, but that it also supports auto duplex scanning.

The Epson GT 2500 is compatible with both Windows and Macintosh systems and it comes with TWAIN and ISIS drivers. As with most new scanners, this device uses USB 2.0 connectivity for fast data transfers. An optional network card also enables this scanner to be shared in small workgroups.
